Getting here & settled in
Arrival & Access
When You Arrive
The property can be accessed 24 hours a day using the key safe located by the front door. The code will be provided separately before your arrival.
Please make sure the key is left back in the safe at the end of your stay.
Parking
There is outside parking for 2 cars at the property.
There is also a separate garage opposite the property which can accommodate a further car inside.
Getting Here
Otter Cottage is located at Church Road, Mylor Churchtown, TR11 5NL.
Driving instructions
- Church Road is a very narrow, single-lane road. All cars and small vans can access, but larger vehicles will not fit.
- The property is approximately 0.7 miles down Church Road.
- The lane narrows after the first turning place at around 0.5 miles β continue on.
- Otter Cottage is further down on the left. The houses before it are Otter Lodge and Otter Bridge.
- There is a further turning space at the very end of Church Road, about 200 yards further on, if needed.
The Boatshed
The Boatshed, or Lower Holt (to give its proper name!), is a home office and chill-out room. The key is on the same fob as the house key.
Behind the Boatshed we store all the water equipment: paddleboards, kayaks and fishing rods, as well as the dinghy electric motor and paddleboard inflating machine.
There is a laptop and monitor, but you are welcome to hook up your own. The laptop PIN is 8897.
The Boatshed also has its own WiFi and Ethernet ports, and a turntable — see the WiFi and Audio sections below.
Connectivity
WiFi & Technology
WiFi
Otter Cottage has ultra-fast full fibre broadband and WiFi throughout the property.
The WiFi code is shown on the card placed on the side table underneath the mirror in the lounge. It is also in the Boatshed, which has Ethernet ports as well.
TV & Streaming
The lounge mirror is also a smart TV. Otter Cottage has its own Netflix account already logged in — please use this rather than your own.
There is a further TV in the snug room on the top floor.
Audio
There are a couple of Bluetooth portable speakers you are welcome to pair with and use. One can be used outside by the hot tub — please be thoughtful about noise for the neighbours after dark.
There is also a turntable in the Boatshed where you can play some vinyl. Instructions for the turntable are in the cupboard underneath.

BBQ
We have a wonderful oil drum charcoal BBQ on the front terrace. There is a stock of charcoal in the garage which you are welcome to use. You need to slide out the fire trays to load the charcoal and firelighters.
Please empty out any ash once it’s fully cooled and give the cooking surface a clean.
Inside the cottage
Kitchen & Household
Laundry & Linen
There is a washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility room. The cupboard next to the washing machine has the iron, brush, mop and so on. It also has some basic tools — although we would prefer it if you didn’t embark on any DIY projects! That cupboard also has useful picnic equipment.
The linen cupboard with bed sheets, towels and beach towels is on the top floor, next to the bathroom. It is a warm cupboard and the best place to dry clothes.
Heating
Otter Cottage has underfloor heating throughout the downstairs. It takes a while to change temperature — the thermostats are on the wall to control it. The radiators upstairs also have wall controls.
Hot water is on a pre-set timer and we would rather you didn’t adjust it. If you do need to change it, the control panel is in the garage, by the boiler.

Water Safety
Please only swim at high tide and be careful where you jump — the creek is not that deep!
If you are going full “Nordic” and alternating time in the hot tub with a dip in the creek, we salute you — but please wash quickly by the hose as you come out so you don’t drag any seaweed back into the hot tub!
For water-based activities like kayaks and paddleboards, please wear a buoyancy aid — there are all shapes and sizes in the utility room. For the dinghy or RIB, please wear a life vest; these are stored in the wicker basket on the landing.
